DTE Project

 In DTE we having been constructing a project using Sphero. Our project idea was to make a drag race with the Spheros. We are using cardboard for the Race track and then we will put obstacles in so it's harder for the Spheros to get to the finish line. 

Essay pre-planning

Three ways that Amari has changed through the book is, her attitude towards Zelie and Tzain. I mean this in a way of respect and love, she now considers Tzain as her partner and Zelie more of a new Binta which is very hard too believe from where they started off wanting too kill each other too becoming a very strong team. My second explanation is Amari has completely broken out of her shell from being a shy and very quite and unphased girl too a warrior fighter basically overnight really has shaped her and her attitude towards the reality of the life outside of the palace. Lastly Amari’s learned whilst being with Tzain and Zelie and meeting all the effected diviners and maji that her fathers vision is horrible and evil, she was able to get past his crazy lifestyle and realise she can build her own future and decide on her own what she needs and wants to do.

Blog post: Our group's chosen character is Amari, we decided on this particular character because of her changes throughout the journey of bringing magic back and so on. From being this shy broken girl too becoming an absolute warrior has been a very amazing transformation for Amari, having too betray her royal family for the safe sake of magic and the diviners have really given her the opportunity to show her own potential and brush off that horrible attitude and mindset her fathers pushed on her for her whole life. Including convincing her brother that he doesn't have to be like their father King Saran, they can choose their own pathway.

In that instant it hits me: Zulaikha’s death. Zélie’s screams. They don’t mean a thing to him. Because they’re maji, they’re nothing.
This could be compared to / A message I take from this scene is that the father doesn't care about the people that he has killed because they killed his family.
Think about how the word ‘maggot’ is used. This is a slur. Do we have these in real life?

My wondering is why the king is hurting her own daughter?

English Writing Prompt Chapter 30

 Chapter 30 – Amari

Chaos.
Before this moment, I never truly understood the word. Chaos meant Mother’s screams before a luncheon. It meant the scramble of oloyes to their gold-lined chairs.
Now chaos surrounds me, pulsing through every breath and heartbeat. It sings as blood splatters through the air, snickers with delight as boats explode into oblivion.
This could be compared to / A message I take from this scene is it reminds me of War because they are fighting because they are in boats and they have to fight to stay alive. For me when I think of chaos it reminds me of my brother and I fighting.

Science Work

 Last week in Science we done an experiment on Wind Cars. The distance of the race was 9 meters and our time was 8.56 seconds. We had to divide the time divided by the length of the race. The final result was 1.05140186916 m/s. 

To make it go faster we could've put made the sail point out, make the sail bigger and use less tape.

Science Experiment

 Today in science we done an experiment on eggs. Our goal for the experiment was to try not to break the egg. We had some equipment to help us succeed. 

Equipment: 

• Egg
• Bubble Wrap
• Newspaper
• Wooden sticks
• Cotton 

Method: 

1. First we had to grab an egg and make our creation.
2. Next we had to walk up the stairs and get ready to drop it.
3. Then we dropped the egg.
4. Finally we walked back to the science lab and got our result.

Overall ours went pretty good cause the egg didn't crack.

Chapter 22 - Amari
I pause for a moment, aghast at the number of them filling the narrow path. Before today, I caught only glimpses of the labourers brought in to staff the palace—always pleasant, clean, groomed to Mother’s satisfaction. Like Binta, I thought they lived simple lives, safe within the palace walls. I never considered where they came from, where else they might have ended up,
“Skies…” It’s almost too hard to bear the sight. Mostly diviners, the labourers outnumber the villagers by hordes, dressed in nothing but tattered rags. Their dark skin blisters under the scorching sun, marred by the dirt and sand seemingly burned into their beings. Each is hardly more than a walking skeleton.
This could be compared to / A message I take from this scene is: My wondering is why they go somewhere, where no one normally is and there are a lot of people there.

DTE Blog

 So far in DTE we have been focusing on Ergonomic Infographics. I haven't finished my Infographic yet but this is a picture of it so far. An infographic is a visual presentation or your information or data about your topic. Eg. A chart or a diagram.

 My Infographic is about the back of a seat. I haven't got much information on it but i'm improving it. 

Business Studies Work

 In Business Studies we have split into groups to work on a project, the project is to make a product and sell it on market day.

Group: Matthew, Subhnesh, Dylan and me (Cole).

Our product is called Fortnite N Drinks. Our idea is to bring a console into school with controllers, chargers and games. We will also bring drinks for the people that are playing. We will give each person around twenty minutes for a turn unless they die.  

We sent out a survey to people at our school to see who would play.

 When the English settlers came to New Zealand they tried to take the Maori's land and if they had to they would kill them.Due to the English coming on boat they didn't have much food to eat so they ate the Maori's food.

Home Economics Jam Drops

This week in Home Economics we cooked Jam Drops. 

Ingredients: Flour, Sugar, Eggs, Jam, Vanilla Essence.

1. First we preheated the oven to 180 degrees fan bake.

2. Then we made the mixture and rolled them up into little balls.

3. After that we pushed our thumb into the little balls.

4. Finally we put them in the oven for about 15 minutes.

When they came out of the oven we put them on the heating rack and waited for them to cool down before we gave them a taste test.

Food for my Family

Last week we had to cook a meal for our family., for my meal I made spaghetti Bolognese. 

Ingredients: Mince, Cheese, Noodles, Paprika, Curry Powder, Flour, Sugar, Salt, Oil

I asked my family for their opinions and my brother said it was alright and then my dad and my mum said that it was nice.

Crystal and Acid Rain

In Science we have been doing an experiment about Crystals.

1. Add 20 mL of sulfuric acid to a 100 mL beaker. Heat the acid until it reaches 70 C.
2. Once heated, use a spatula to add pea-sized portions of copper oxide to the beaker. Stir the mixture for 30 seconds.
3. Repeat step 2 until no more will dissolve. Allow the beaker to cool.
4. Fold the filter paper and place it in the funnel. Place the filter funnel into the second beaker.
5. Make sure the beaker is cool enough to hold at the top. The contents should till be hot. You may need your teacher.
6. Gently swirl the contents of the beaker to mix, and then pour into the filter paper in the funnel. Allow to filter through.
7. Rinse the beaker you used to heat the mixture previously, and place it back on top of your tripod filled with 50-60 mL of water.
8. Place the evaporating basin on top of the beaker and carefully pour some of the solution from the beaker into the evaporating basin.
9. Gently heat the beaker until the solution in the evaporating basin has reduced by half.
10. Leave the evaporating basin to cool. 

How does Acid Rain affect coral reefs: It make the water too acidic and it affects sealife.

Science Experiment

In Science we done an experiment about Oil of Wintergreen. 

1. Weigh 0.25 grams of salicylic acid into a 10-15 cm test tube.
2. Add 2.0 ml of methanol to the test tube and swirl until the solid dissolves.
3. Slowly add 10 drops of sulfuric acid.
4. Place the test tube in a hot water bath and secure by using a utility clamp and heat for 15 minutes.
5. Cool the test tube in running water.
6. Smell the contents by wafting and record any observations. 

Social Studies Migration Story

My Migration Story

My whole life I have lived in Christchurch, New Zealand with my family. My brother and I have lived in the same house for our whole life but my parents only bought the house in 1991. My mum was born in Christchurch and my dad was born in Hamilton but lived most of his childhood in Rotorua and then he moved to Christchurch with his brothers and his mum. I have travelled all around NZ and I have been to Australia and my mum and dad have been to places all around the world such as Spain, Wales, France, Hawaii, Scotland, Ireland, Las Vegas, Singapore, Australia and many other places. If there was one place that I could travel to it would be America because I’ve always wanted to go watch an NBA game, if I went to an NBA game I would want to watch either the Lakers, the Bucks or the Nets. My parents said that they have always wanted to travel to somewhere like Greece or someplace tropical. All of my family are New Zealanders. For work my mum has gone to places like Fiji. When I’m older I hope I get to travel all around Europe and America and some tropical places such as Rarotonga. A few years ago I went on a family trip with my aunties, uncles and cousins from christchurch all the way up to the top of the North Island and then we worked our way down back to Christchurch. Some of the places that we visited were Paihia, Cape Reinga, drove on 90 mile beach, Coromandel, Whitianga, Mount Maunganui, Whakatane, Te Araro, Napier and Hastings and then made our way home from their, out of all of the places that we went to my favourite would have to be Hastings because there was this amusement park called Splash Planet. At Splash Planet you could play mini golf, go on the hydroslides, go on the bumpers boats, drive the mini jeeps, go around in the lazy river or just swim normally.

Creepy Old Lady

In 1981 there was a woman named Sally Jones and she was a serial killer. She was always bent over when she walked because she had a very bad back. Her skin was wrinkly with moles and freckles all over her face. She had pale skin which was peeling because she was always sunburnt and all she liked to do was stand outside people’s houses and watch them. Her silky black clothes dragged across the ground behind her as she walked. Her walking was cracked at the bottom because she dragged it across the ground instead of lifting it while walking. The only thing that made people scared of her was the massive scar across her face, it went from the right side of her lip to the left side of her forehead. Her curled up moustache was extremely greasy that she would drink the grease instead of drinking anything else. At night she would sneak around the back of people’s houses and check to see if the back door was open, if it was she would go in and look for people to pulverise but if it was locked then she would look through their windows. When she sneaks into someone’s house and she finds someone she comes from behind and then she grabs them by the neck and then chokes them to death or if the person turns around then she tackles them and uses a sharp object to kill them. Once she was finished with the body’s she would put them in her minivan and drive into the middle of the woods and then dig a 6 ft hole to bury them. She would then drive away and go to the next person’s house and then she would do that over and over until she got bored of it. When she gets bored she flies to Iran and she gets knife and gun training so she can continue with her creepy life. When she is finished with her training she fly's back to America and she continues to sneak into peoples houses. She said that her goal was to kill at least 40 people a night. In 1995 she died from leukaemia (Which is a type of Cancer). She was buried in Maryland in 1996.
